Ariel Winter’s mother loses custody bid

Ariel Winter’s estranged mother, Chrisoula “Chrystal” Workman, was denied in her latest attempt to regain custody of her daughter.

The 15-year-old “Modern Family” star – who stars as Alex Dunphy in the ABC comedy – is currently under the care of her 34-year-old sister Shanelle Gray. Ariel was removed from her mother’s custody last year after Gray alleged that Workman was abusing the teenager physically and emotionally.

Workman had filed documents in a LA court in an effort to get Ariel back but was denied her request. The Associated Press reports that Senior Court Judge Michael Levenas stood by his March 29 order allowing Gray guardianship over Ariel until Oct. 16. The judge said it was not yet evident that Workman had mended her relationship with her famous daughter.

Workman has denied Gray’s allegations that she “slapped, hit, pushed” and starved Ariel.

“I’m the one being abused here,” Workman told the AP Wednesday. “I’m doing this for all stage mothers. This could happen to any of them.”

The trial concerning whether Gray’s guardianship will be made permanent is scheduled for Sept. 16.

Ariel told Teen Vogue in March that she has never been happier since moving in with her sister. “My life is definitely more normal – and that’ll help me grow up like I’m supposed to. Sunday we have family dinner. It’s just a different experience for me because I have more of a family life. I’m really happy.”
