Amanda Bynes responding to treatment, stopped talking to herself: report

Amanda Bynes has reportedly responded “quickly and dramatically” to the medication she is taking in the psychiatric hospital where she’s being held.

Bynes is currently under a two-week hold at the Hillmont Psychiatric Center in Los Angeles. She was placed under an involuntary 5150 hold after authorities deemed that she was a danger to others and herself after allegedly starting a driveway blaze – in which she accidentally set her clothes on fire – at a residential home in Thousand Oaks, Calif.

Reports speculate that the erratic 27-year-old actress may be exhibiting signs of schizophrenia, and according to TMZ, her medical team has allegedly administered a combination of drugs – otherwise known as “cocktail” – to improve her mental state.

The gossip site’s sources explain that Bynes has apparently “stopped talking to herself and stopped insulting people,” adding, “she’s become downright polite, even saying ‘please’ and ‘thank you’. She has shown no signs of violence.”

The medication is said to take seven to ten days to have an effect, TMZ reports, so doctors are allegedly cautious but optimistic about Bynes’ progress.

The former Nickelodeon star is scheduled for a court hearing today where she will make her bid for release from the psychiatric hospital. Bynes was initially placed on 5150 hold for 72 hours but a judge reportedly granted a request to extend her mental health evaluation by two weeks to evaluate her.

However, TMZ reports Bynes’ bid to be released is likely to fail. Their sources explained that the judge will need convincing that Bynes will voluntarily take her medication, and the treatment will work long-term.
