At a press briefing yesterday, White House spokesman Jay Carney had to take a break from weighty questions to field one about “This Town,” the behind-the-scenes political tome, in which he appears. After one reporter asked Carney, “Have you read [Mark Leibovich’s] book? And do you think it accurately reflects this town and this White House?” he replied, “I have not read the book, but . . . I expect an invitation to the book party.” Carney is described in one passage as, “dancing at a party for ‘Meet the Press’ gatekeeper Betsy Fischer at lobbyist Jack Quinn’s house.” Author Leibovich further recalled that Carney was part of an epic “conga line” at the bash, which the flack disputed.
