Downtown artist Domingo Zapata has moved out of the Bowery Hotel and into a new place. “I just got a place in Gramercy Park, and I need the money. It’s a tough life being a struggling artist,” he told the crowd at his Water Mill home on Saturday night during a “A Contemporary Salon” with Richard Dupont and Henry Richardson. But don’t feel too bad. “It’s a house from the 1850s I turned into a studio,” Zapata said. “I’ve got about 8,000 square feet . . . Gramercy Park is a very inspiring place. There’s so much history . . . I’m very lucky.” He added of the hip hotel further downtown: “I love the Bowery, it was a great experience for two years. [Now] there’s also a little bit more privacy.”
