Simon Cowell hires expert to help dogs accept newborn son

Simon Cowell hired a top Upper East Side canine expert to help introduce his two Yorkie dogs Squiddly and Diddly to his and Lauren Silverman’s new baby boy, Eric.

We are told Cowell hired Edward Alava, who owns the Dog Store on the Upper East Side, to care for his two pups while he was in New York following the birth.

A source told Page Six, “Edward would come to Simon’s hotel, the St. Regis, to care for his two dogs and would walk them three times a day. Because of the snowy weather, Edward brought cashmere sweaters for the dogs and leather snow boots.”

But sources said Simon’s main concern was making sure the pampered pooches, a male and a female they adopted in October and who often fly first class, would accept their new son. It is thought Cowell named the pooches after his favorite ’60s cartoon about a musical squid called Squiddly Diddly.

The source added, “Edward advised Simon on how to familiarize the dogs to Eric, telling Simon to put one of Eric’s blankets in the pup’s basket so they could get used to the newborn’s smell.” Simon and Lauren were spotted over the weekend in Miami — where his mother lives — walking the two Yorkies. His rep declined to comment.
