J. Crew chief executive Mickey Drexler hints that Jenna Lyons is the top contender to succeed him to run the preppy clothing company. In a Bloomberg Television interview to air Friday, Margaret Brennan asked the expressive CEO to name his heir-apparent. Drexler at first played coy, saying, “I can’t say who it is today. But I would say over time, we’ll figure that out.” But he then mentioned president/executive creative director Lyons and executive vice president Libby Wadle as specific possibilities, and added of Lyons, “Well, how could you say no, right? I mean, I don’t know if she’s going to be watching this or not, but sure.” Lyons is also one of the few J. Crew executives who already has an office. “[Human resources] has a closed office,” Drexler said. “Jenna actually has a closed office, too, but the rest of us don’t.” The interview will air during the “Bloomberg Spotlight” show.
