Art director Ian Cuttler Sala dead in Sami Hayek car crash

The 43-year-old man who died in an LA car crash involving actress Salma Hayek’s younger brother Sami has been identified as Grammy-winning New York art director and photographer Ian Cuttler Sala.

Ian was the passenger in a sports car being driven by Sami when it crashed Sunday on Sunset Boulevard.

Sami Hayek was not arrested, but police say he was driving a 2006 Ford GT on the wrong side of the road and collided with Alvin Gomez, 20, an LA resident who was driving a 2011 Toyota Tacoma truck.

Sami, a furniture designer, suffered broken ribs, and Gomez a broken foot. Both were taken to UCLA Medical Center.

Friends of Ian, who died at the scene, said he and Sami were longtime friends and they were working on a photo shoot together in LA. Ian worked at Sony Music NY for nine years before becoming a photographer and lived on the Upper East Side.

At Sony, he created visual campaigns for Beyoncé, Billy Joel and Mariah Carey. He won a Grammy in 2006 for designing the packaging for the “Johnny Cash: The Legend” box set.
