Betty White may have a hard time wrapping her birthday present for Carol Burnett this year. White is gifting the red-headed comedian with a gorilla.

With Burnett turning 79 on Thursday, White has adopted Glenda the Gorilla in her honor through the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Garden’s “Adopt an Animal Program.” While the gorilla will be Burnett’s, she will still be housed at the LA zoo.

“I love all animals,” said White, explaining her unusual gift choice. “Some more than others, including gorillas and Carol Burnett.”

Stephen Terrell of The Lifeline Program, which co-sponsored the gorilla adoption, further explains the gift.

“Millions of fans remember Carol’s legendary Tarzan yell from her classic TV show,” he said. “We wanted a fun way to honor her comedic talents and help a good cause at the same time.”

White and Burnett are longtime friends, ever since playing sisters on the TV show “Mama’s Family.” When Burnett toasted White at her 90th birthday party earlier this year, she tearfully wished to salute her friend at her 100th birthday.
