David Arquette has Bar Mitzvah 28 years late

Courteney Cox’s ex David Arquette had a Bar Mitzvah at the age of 41 today… only 28 years later than usual.

The actor has been traveling in Israel to film a globe-trotting travel show, called “Trippin.” When he attended a Bar Mitzvah for a local boy in Jerusalem, “someone suggested David should get a Bar Mitzvah of his own,” according to Web site TMZ.

The “Scream” franchise star was then photographed at his own coming-of-age ceremony at Jerusalem’s Western Wall, reading the Torah and wearing traditional prayer garb. Afterwards, he tweeted, “I had my Bar Mitzvah today at the wall. Finally I’m a man.” He also posted a picture of himself at the site.

Though the ceremony seemed spontaneous, Arquette apparently considered a belated Bar Mitzvah before: He told the Jewish Journal two years ago, “I wanted a bar mitzvah but didn’t have one as a kid… maybe for my 40th birthday.”

According to reports, Arquette’s mother is Jewish and his father is a convert to Islam. He was raised on a Virginia religious commune co-founded by them, with no running water or electricity, that included a grab bag of religions, including Buddhism and Hinduism. His siblings include actresses Rosanna and Patricia Arquette.
