Before he won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar — and gave a serious speech that covered his mom, the Ukraine, Venezuela and AIDS — Jared Leto joked about his reported romantic relationship with fellow Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o.
“In case this is the last time I get to thank anyone, I wrote down a couple of names,” quipped the actor a day before his Oscar win at the Independent Spirit Awards. He went on to honor everyone from Wayne Gretzky to the inventor of the zipper to “all the women I have slept with and those who think they’ve slept with me.”
Leto then added, “And [to] my future ex-wife Lupita!” after Page Six reported that he and Nyong’o were seen on an intimate date at the Crosby Street Hotel.
Stunning Nyong’o sat smiling at Leto’s remark at a table with the cast of Best Picture “12 Years a Slave” after winning the Spirit Awards’ Best Supporting Actress honor.
Leto also joked about Best Actor Matthew McConaughey’s suddenly ascending career as a dramatic actor, saying, “I’m gonna pull an opposite . . . and just do romantic comedies.”
