Kyra Sedgwick, who closed TNT’s “The Closer” and now opens in Lionsgate’s “The Possession”:

“It’s a great, fun, good old-fashioned horror movie. Growing up I loved those films like ‘The Exorcist’ or ‘The Omen’ with Lee Remick. The acting was terrific, so I kept watching even though it scared the crap out of me. If you didn’t sit through those things, you were a wimp.

“This one’s about a little girl who buys a plain old — like from the 1800s — innocuous box at a simple everyday sort of yard sale. Turns out it’s possessed by some evil dislocated spirit. A dybbuk. And it invades her.

“I play the little girl’s mother who’s getting a divorce, so our thinking is that turmoil is what’s making her act out. As though this is a metaphor for breaking up the family.

“We didn’t reinvent the genre. Our director sat us down, and said we have no high-tech special effects. We’re to raise the level. Touch our deepest souls. Not make this cliché.

“This is based on a true story. In real life, there’s this guy who bought one little box at a flea market, and suddenly evil things happened. He then sold it, and that person got sick. They resold it, and again something bad happened.

“There’s suspense, and it’s a thriller and some violence gets thrown in. Not lots of blood and gore, but I wouldn’t take little children to see it.”

Kyra, who has aristocratic heritage, longtime husband Kevin Bacon, two children, multiple homes, Emmy, Golden Globe, SAG award nods, says: “We don’t do what we do for awards, we do it for the pleasure of acting. However, I’d love to win an Oscar. I went to Susan Sarandon’s. Her office has a small bathroom. All over the wall, all the way up, are her awards.

“I enjoy fans coming over. I don’t do this job and then look to run away from people and hide behind security. I love what I do. If a good play came along I’d grab it, but what I really want is more films. I’m a workhorse actor.”
