There were many more laughs than tears at the memorial tribute hosted by Dick Cavett for Gore Vidal yesterday at Broadway’s Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre, reports The Post’s Frank Scheck. A gallery of friends and colleagues paid tribute to the late author, mainly through his own words and pin-sharp one-liners. Susan Sarandon related the parenting advice he gave her: “Darling, it’s inevitable that you give your child neuroses. Just make sure they’re productive ones.” Dennis Kucinich recounted how when he asked Vidal for advice after deciding to run for president, he was told, “You’ve got to do something about your hair!” When Kucinich then asked what he’d suggest, Vidal replied, “A guillotine” And an all-star quartet consisting of Anjelica Huston, Elizabeth Ashley, Candice Bergen and Christine Ebersole recited a series of his witticisms, including these classic one-liners: “I never miss a chance to have sex or appear on television,” and, “Every time a friend succeeds, I die a little.”
