Gadfly Gawker Media head Nick Denton recently changed his Facebook status from single to “in a relationship,” but not everyone seems to be happy about it.
Sources say an angry ex of his new boyfriend tossed a brick through the window of Denton’s SoHo loft building recently, and has been causing enough further trouble that the police have been contacted.
We hear that Denton — whose Gawker blogs include Deadspin, Lifehacker, Jalopnik and Jezebel — recently began dating a hunky 29-year-old actor who’s currently starring in an off-off-Broadway play that’s arrived from London.
And last week, Denton hosted a party to celebrate the opening of his boyfriend’s show, and to toast his new relationship with friends.
But a jealous ex of the boy toy has been harassing the openly gay online mogul and his new beau — and hasn’t been too subtle displaying his displeasure.
“An ex has been harassing Nick,” a source with knowledge of the situation said, adding it has been going on “for some time.
“A couple of months ago, the guy showed up in SoHo and threw a brick right through a second-floor window of Nick’s apartment.”
The alleged scary stalker situation escalated when the irate ex appeared yet again at Denton’s address on Tuesday, and the police were called, we’re told.
When we asked Denton about the incidents, he told us via e-mail: “After that Hulk Hogan sex tape on Gawker, I can hardly complain about intrusion into my private life!
“Yep, love is messy,” he added.
Gawker posted on Friday a black-and-white clip of a sex tape allegedly starring pro wrestling icon Hogan, along with a graphic blow-by-blow description of the full DVD. Hogan told TMZ Friday that his team is drafting a cease-and-desist letter over the leaked footage.
