Ariel Winter’s mom ‘abusive menace’ on ‘Modern’ set: report

The family drama continues.

Ariel Winter’s mom Chrisoula “Chris” Workman was allegedly an “abusive menace” who caused so many problems that the “Modern Family” producers wanted to ban her from the set, reports TMZ.

A source tells the site that Workman was “hated” by the show’s crew, producers, actors and other mothers because she would obsessively control Winter’s every move and chide her for her looks, telling her that her ears were too big and that she looked ugly in her clothes.

Workman allegedly had an obsession with her daughter’s diet and would not allow her to eat anything but egg whites and raw vegetables. It got so bad that crew members wanted to “sneak” the 14-year-old food when her mom wasn’t looking.

Additionally, the gossip site reports that Workman was “very vocal” about how her daughter needed to make more money in order to pay for their house, her agents, managers and publicists.

Workman has denied all allegations of physical and verbal abuse.

In related news, Winter’s close friends have spoken out, telling TMZ that Winter has never had an illicit relationship with an 18-year-old man, Cameron Palatas.

They say that mother was “flat-out lying” when Workman filed a police report with the LA County Sheriff’s Department in Oct. claiming that she caught her daughter and Palatas in bed together at her Montrose, Calif. home on Sept. 24.

“Ariel is so innocent, she never even kissed a boy until her first kiss in a ‘Modern Family’ episode,” a source says.

A different source says that the pair were “touchy-feely” at a party over the summer but he did not see anything more intimate than that.

Notably, multiple publications have confirmed that the “Modern Family” star and Palatas ended their relationship months ago, and long before the teenager grabbed headlines with her family troubles.

When asked by E! News about her relationship with Palatas at the Ronald McDonald Camp Halloween Party at the end of October, Winter said, “Um, I don’t have one…Not at the moment. We’re just friends.”

She’s currently in the middle of a guardianship battle between her mother and sister Shanelle Gray after being removed from her mom’s care over claims of abuse. A hearing on Gray’s petition is scheduled for Nov. 20. Workman has been barred from having any contact with Ariel until then.
