Harvey Weinstein thanked Simon Cowell for introducing him to the star of his latest film, Australian import “The Sapphires.” Weinstein said at a Hudson Common party celebrating the hit Aussie film this week that Cowell first told him about “Australian Idol” singer Jessica Mauboy, who stars as the leader of a ’60s aboriginal girl group. “It’s time for me to get offstage,” Weinstein then joked at the event. “I’m doing what I do best . . . letting the talented people take over, and then making money off of it.” Mauboy and the cast — including co-star Chris O’Dowd of “Girls” — then performed tunes for guests including director Wayne Blair, Steven Soderbergh and Jim Dolan.
