Feminist icon Gloria Steinem has rallied to defend Kim Kardashian, who has been subject to a particularly cruel round of criticism about her pregnancy weight and her choice of maternity wear.

“Our bodies are never public property under any circumstance,” said the 79-year-old Steinem to Us Weekly.

The activist also lashed out at people who feel they are allowed to touch a pregnant woman’s bump: “It’s wrong, and people in the street who feel the right to touch a pregnant woman’s belly ought to be arrested for harassment. Our bodies belong to us, and if we don’t invite touching, we shouldn’t tolerate it.”

Kanye West’s baby mama is all too aware of the criticism about her size and her unflattering maternity fashion preferences.

Kardashian wrote on her blog last week, “I saw some comments that were so critical! It’s funny because Kourtney warned me that when I get pregnant people’s opinions of me will be on an all time high and everyone will chime in. So I now see what that means.”
