‘Twilight’ financier sues, cites Stewart’s and Pattinson’s bonuses

The “Twilight” saga may be over, but the legal battle over the franchise’s profits is just beginning.

Goldcrest Film Distribution, the franchise’s financier, is suing Summit Entertainment over box office profits, reports The Wrap.

The lawsuit filed Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court seeks “to recover several million dollars in payments.” The financier alleges Summit’s deceptive accounting understated the franchise’s revenue while overstating its costs.

Goldcrest also claims that some of the money owed to the London-based company was instead paid out to Kristen Stewart, Rob Pattinson and other actors in the form of bonuses, after the runaway success of the first film in the series.

Back in 2008, the financier ponied up $10 million for a sub-distribution deal for four films based on Stephanie Meyer’s beloved vampire series. The franchise, which would eventually expand to a fifth movie, made more than $3.3 billion worldwide.

Summit has yet to comment on the lawsuit.
