A COYOTE in Connecticut nearly killed Stanley, the cat Chuck and Ellen Scarborough adopted 11 years ago. Ellen told the tale at Savannah’s in East Hampton at the North Shore Animal League benefit hosted by Beth Stern (wife of Howard), where Ellen bought a Bodhi leash and collar for Oliver, the 45-pound black mutt the Scarboroughs adopted with the cat. Chuck elaborated yesterday for Page Six before delivering the news on Ch. 4, “We were walking near some woods. We heard this horrendous racket — you know what a catfight sounds like? — and Oliver took off like a rocket.” The catfight soon sounded more like a dogfight as Stanley limped away, and Oliver “was fully engaged with a coyote who probably outweighed him by 10 pounds,” Chuck said. The dog was unhurt, but the cat needed a vet to stitch bite wounds. “Stanley was on the losing end and wouldn’t have lasted 10 seconds longer,” Chuck said. “Oliver saved his little brother from the jaws of death.”
