A booking war between NBC’s “Today” and CBS’s “The Early Show” delayed the reunion of “golden voice” Ted Williams with his 90-year-old mother, Julia. In a war for the exclusive, each show made it impossible for them to meet after 10 years without cameras rolling. NBC sources say CBS went to Julia’s house and whisked her away. CBS sources claimed they were bringing Julia to the airport to meet Ted, but NBC grabbed him off the tarmac. “We had to tell the mother she wouldn’t be reunited with her son,” a CBS source said. The networks finally agreed to film together and Ted and Julia were reunited yesterday. An NBC rep said, “That’s false. We didn’t know his mom was at the airport.” A rep for CBS said: “NBC knew Julia was at the airport . . . and they denied them a reunion . . . [it] had to happen live on their show. They . . . sneak[ed] him off the plane into a van and away from the airport, in order to avoid his mother. Now NBC is spreading malicious lies because they got scooped . . . They should get over it.”
