While Kim Kardashian has filed for a divorce, it appears that her husband Kris Humphries will seek an annulment.
Sources tell People that the NBA player will be filing his own legal paperwork within days and that he will seek a separation from Kardashian rather than divorce. But the intention is not to stay married to the reality TV star, experts say. It’s to get the record wiped clean of the fact that he was ever married to her.

Seeking an annulment is a somewhat unexpected move for Humphries, who is represented by Minnesota lawyer Lee Hutton III. Shortly after Kardashian announced that she had filed paperwork to end their short marriage, Humphries said in a statement, “I love my wife and am devastated to learn she filed for divorce. I’m committed to this marriage and everything this covenant represents. I’m willing to do whatever it takes to make it work.”
Sources close to Humphries said that he didn’t “believe in divorce” and that he would not be signing divorce papers. At the time, Humphries appeared to desire a reconciliation. Kardashian flew to Minnesota for a counseling session with him and the pastor who married them.
But now that reconciliation seems impossible, an annulment would be consistent with Humphries’ beliefs about divorce. Annulments are often used in religious circles where divorce is frowned upon, and imply that a marriage is null and void because it was entered falsely.

Many chinks in their marriage were obvious in the season premiere of “Kourtney & Kim Take New York” Sunday night. The couple bickered often and appeared to be on separate pages about where to live and what their married life should look like.
They were also very physical with each other and loose with jokes, with Humphries at one point telling his wife, “God, you ate a lot of wedding cake.” And they had a blowout fight when Humphries arrived home to find his wife taking part in a naked yoga class.
A source close to the former couple tells Radar Online about another rift between the two — that Kardashian was allegedly jealous of Humphries’ sister Kaela.
“Kris and Kaela have always been extremely close,” the source claims. “Kim would often try and get Kris off the phone with Kaela by making suggestive comments, or telling him he needed to pick up after his dogs. Kim wanted the full attention on her at all times and saw Kris’ sister as competition.”
Humphries was reportedly among the 3.2 million viewers who tuned in to watch the premiere of “Kourtney & Kim Take New York.” Sources say he was in “utter horror,” but wasn’t shocked by the negative portrayal of his marriage.
“Kris wasn’t surprised that he was made to look bad,” a source said. “He will just be relieved when the show is over … Kris is very excited to take on the next chapter of his life.”
