Bruce Blakeman plans run for congress as Republican candidate

Nancy Shevell’s wealthy ex-husband Bruce Blakeman is plotting a return to politics and is set to announce he’ll run as a Republican candidate for the congressional seat being vacated by Rep. Carolyn McCarthy.

Blakeman, 58, who lives in Long Beach, is a former presiding officer of the Nassau County legislature, and will formally declare he’s running for New York’s 4th Congressional District later this week, we are told.

He was the Republican candidate for state comptroller in 1998, and considered challenging Kirsten Gillibrand in 2010.

Shevell and Blakeman were married for 23 years and separated in 2007, before she began dating her current husband, Sir Paul McCartney.
