Ever hear of the mob enforcer who’s afraid of trick-or-treating kids? Charles “Fat Charlie” Salzano, a 370-pound leg-breaker for the Genovese gang, already did 32 months behind bars for threatening to cripple a couple of businessmen who were late with their loan-shark payments, Jerry Capeci reports on his GangLand Web site. Released in August, Salzano’s now confined to his home as he awaits trial for racketeering. But last month, the tough guy was granted permission by Manhattan federal Judge Richard Holwell to spend Halloween at his brother’s house. His lawyer argued that Salzano, 59, has a heart problem and his wife was going to be out. “As a result, he’d be home alone at their Valley Stream condo, forced to face dozens of neighborhood kids in scary costumes ringing the bell and screaming for treats — all by himself,” Capeciwrote. “Prosecutors did not object (maybe they were laughing too hard).”
