Robert Pattinson worries about his future after ‘Twilight’

Despite starring in one of the most highly anticipated movies of the fall, the final installment of the “Twilight” saga, “Breaking Dawn Part 2,” Robert Pattinson says he’s concerned about not having a “security blanket” once the series is over.

“In career terms ‘Twilight’ was like a security blanket,” Pattinson told The Guardian. “Not a blanket – a safety net. I had a three- or four-month window between each one during which I could do another job. But whatever I did, I knew that I’d have another ‘Twilight’ movie on the way, which is theoretically guaranteed to make a lot of money. So I could always afford to fail. After [‘Breaking Dawn Part 2’] comes out, you can kind of have two failures – and they’d better be low-budget failures. Because if you have one big-budget failure you’re pretty much done in this environment.”

But even if his future films all bomb, don’t look for Pattinson to collect unemployment: The heartthrob has an estimated net worth of $55 million, according to reports.

Pattinson also told The Guardian he’s in a more precarious position than fellow “Twilight” sensation Kristen Stewart.

“It’s different for Kristen,” he said, speaking of his co-star who’s also rumored to be his off-screen girlfriend. “Because she grew up gradually, doing independent movies and stepping up the ladder whereas I was doing progressively smaller movies in England… to the point where I was doing nine-day shoots for, like, 20 pence and a packet of Space Invaders.”

But Pattinson is trying to look on the bright side just in case he ends up branded the new Mark Hamill, the actor who starred in the original “Star Wars” franchise but whose acting career subsequently fizzled. “People are like: ‘Oh, the Mark Hamill curse,’” Pattinson said. “And ‘poor Mark Hamill. I mean, I’m sure he did fine.”
