Recording industry kingpin Jimmy Iovine thinks he has what it takes to be a TV mogul. Sources say the chairman of Interscope-Geffen-A&M, who started as John Lennon’s engineer, established Interscope in 1991, and guided the careers of stars including Lady Gaga and Eminem, has reached out to staff at the label about developing a show concept around him as an “idol maker” for a network. “He is going to push much more in TV and film,” a source said, adding, “He thinks he is more credible than the judges on the shows on air now. Some people in the business agree with that.” Iovine, who appeared as a mentor on “American Idol” on Season 10, has a flair for the entertainment business; he co-produced Eminem’s “8 Mile” and “Get Rich or Die Tryin’” starring 50 Cent. Iovine’s rep denied he is interested in a TV career, saying: “The information you are reporting is completely untrue.” Insiders tell us Iovine will stay with the label if he makes a play for a TV talent show. His contract with Interscope runs until 2015.
