Fincher wanted $10M to direct Steve Jobs movie

Director David Fincher won’t be re-teaming with “The Social Network” writer Aaron Sorkin for an adaptation of Walter Isaacson’s best seller, “Steve Jobs.”

Fincher wanted $10 million upfront for the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter, as well as input on marketing.

The director also reportedly wanted Christian Bale to star as Jobs in the movie that’s being produced for Sony by Scott Rudin, who was behind “The Social Network” and Fincher’s adaptation of another best seller, “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” for the studio.

However, Bale has never been locked in to play the Apple co-founder. A studio source sniffed last night that there was “never a deal with Fincher” either.

Sony has been slashing costs and has lowered the number of films it’s making annually.

Another indie project on Jobs, starring Ashton Kutcher, made just $16.1 million last summer.
