Three pieces of jewelry made by Pablo Picasso in the ’50s will be auctioned off on Tuesday in Boston.
The metal pendants were given to Carole Mallory by Picasso’s mistress Françoise Gilot in 1973 when Carole was engaged to marry her son, Claude Picasso, which never happened.
“He jilted me twice,” said Mallory, a model/actress best known for her subsequent nine-year affair with Norman Mailer. “My dear treasures have been in my drawer since 1973 [the year Picasso died]. They belong in a museum, as they are that rare and wonderful.”
Mallory — who has written several books and whose conquests include Robert De Niro, Warren Beatty, Richard Gere and Sean Connery — will speak about her jewelry and her life on Monday, the night before the auction, at Skinner Auctioneers. Asked how high the bidding could go, Mallory told me, “I have no idea. The sky is the limit.”
