Arnold Schwarzenegger hopes to recapture his former Hollywood glory with a sequel to his 1988 hit “Twins” with Danny DeVito. But this time around, he wants a fellow ‘80s and ‘90s box-office icon, Eddie Murphy, to join him.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed last week that the movie “Triplets” is in development — 24 years after the release of “Twins.”

An embargoed interview Schwarzenegger gave to ComingSoon.net then surfaced in which the star-turned-politician let it slip that he wanted “Beverly Hills Cop” star Murphy to play his and DeVito’s long-lost triplet in the movie.

“I would love to do another ‘Twins,'” Schwarzenegger told the site. “As a matter of fact, we’ve been talking about doing one and it’s called ‘Triplets.’ I’d find somebody like Eddie Murphy or someone that people would say, ‘How does that happen, medically speaking?’ and, ‘Physically, there’s no way!’ Then, somehow, we would explain it. That would be hilarious.”

Universal and Montecito Picture Co. apparently followed Schwarzenegger’s lead, as Murphy is now reportedly attached to co-star. While the project doesn’t have a script or a director, Ivan Reitman, Joe Medjuk, Tom Pollock and Ali Bell are reported to be producing.

No major decisions have been made about the plot, but Schwarzenegger told ComingSoon.net he has a feeling the film will be a hit.

“I can see the poster,” Schwarzenegger said. “A billboard with us three. ‘They found another one!’ ‘Triplets!’ ‘Only their mother can tell them apart!’ I would do that in two seconds, because that’s real entertainment. You come out with that movie for Christmas, like December 5th or something like that, and you’re home free.”

Schwarzenegger’s appearing in a string of upcoming movie projects, which are all action films, including, “The Expendables 2,” “The Last Stand,” “Unknown Soldier” and “The Tomb.” He’d previously crossed over to comedies with films including “Twins” and “Kindergarten Cop.”
