The week before Beastie Boy Adam Horovitz (a k a Ad-Rock) is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, his father, playwright Israel Horovitz, was made a Commandeur of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres at the French Embassy in New York on Tuesday. (Past honorees include Clint Eastwood and Patti Smith.) The elder Horovitz penned a short play for the occasion, performed by Kevin Kline, Bobby Cannavale, Judith Ivey and others, and the embassy’s Antonin Baudry presented the writer with a precious medallion. Rachael Horovitz — Israel’s daughter and producer of “Moneyball” — then threw a private dinner, complete with a theatrical cake that said, “Bravo!”
