Lady Gaga insults Thai fans with tweet

Lady Gaga managed to offend many Thai fans just minutes after landing in the country last night on her “Born This Way Ball” world tour.

Upon her plane touching down, Gaga tweeted to her 24 million followers, “I just landed in Bangkok baby! Ready for 50,000 screaming Thai monsters. I wanna get lost in a lady market and buy fake Rolex.”

Some thought Gaga’s “lady market” comment referred to the fact that prostitution is common in the country, but it is more likely that she was referring to the city’s outdoor shopping area, the Ladies Market. Regardless, many took offense to Gaga’s comment.

“We are more civilized than you think,” Thai DJ Surahit Siamwalla tweeted back. He added that he would now be boycotting her show.

Another upset fan wrote, according to the AP, “She came to our home, but instead of admiring us she insulted us.”

Gaga’s tour in Asia is encountering other issues as well, with religious groups in South Korea, Indonesia and the Philippines pressuring the singer to tone down her show. Gaga’s manager, Troy Carter, said that Gaga would cancel dates rather than amend the event.

“We’ll skip them,” he said at a press conference yesterday, the Telegraph reports. “We play the show as it is. It’s a very specific show, it’s a very specific audience.”
