Paula Broadwell ‘filled with guilt and shame’ over Petraeus affair, says brother

The fallout from her extra-marital affair with ex-CIA director David Petraeus is having an effect on Paula Broadwell.

Broadwell has been telling friends and family that she’s “devastated” by the fallout from her extramarital affair with ex-CIA chief David Petraeus.

“She’s been devastated by this,” Paula’s brother Stephen Kranz told People. “She is filled with guilt and shame for what she’s done and she’s incredibly sorry for the pain she’s caused her husband, her family, Petraeus’ family. She accepts responsibility for her actions and knows she made a mistake.”

He added: “Now [she] is really focused on repairing and protecting her family and trying to really focus on her husband and her children and protect the kids from this.”

Her husband Scott and their two young sons returned from Washington, D.C. to their North Carolina home yesterday.

Scott put on a brave face, smiling and telling reporters he’d have a statement to give “soon.” He later told The Post he’d written the message in front of their home — “Dad ♥s Mom” — with a power-washer. His wife, however, remained silent.

About a dozen neighbors gathered inside the home last night to welcome the Broadwells back.

A source close to the family told the magazine that the couple “want to focus on their family and get their lives back to as normal as possible, particularly for the kids.”

“They’re overwhelmed by the outpouring of support,” says the source. “They’re doing well right now.”
