Tom Cruise has finally opened up about his divorce from Katie Holmes last summer, saying he was just as surprised as anyone.
Insiders initially said that the actor was “blindsided” by the divorce request, but Cruise has not said anything about the split, until now.
“I did not expect that,” the “Top Gun” star confessed to German TV network ProSieben (via E! Online).
Holmes abruptly filed for divorce from the megastar last June, days before Cruise’s 50th birthday. Cruise said the split gave him “an incredible amount of time to reflect.”
“Life is a challenge,” he continued. “To be 50 and have experiences and think you have everything under control, and then it hits you—that’s what life is….Life is tragicomic. You need a certain sense of humor.”
The pair’s five-year marriage ended after speedy negotiations – the “Dawson’s Creek” actress has custody over their 6-year-old daughter, Suri, with Cruise having generous visitation rights.
