Katie Holmes rail thin after Cruise split

Katie Holmes may have said: “I feel sexier” during a new Elle interview, but photos show the strain of her divorce is taking its toll on her shrinking frame.

The 33-year-old actress has put on a brave face as she’s been spotted leaving her Chelsea home, but, yesterday, her backless halterneck blouse showed off a rail-thin figure.

The divorce battle took another nasty turn after Cruise’s powerhouse lawyer Bert Fields accused Holmes’ team of “playing the media”.

He told the BBC: “We are letting ‘the other side’ play the media until they wear everyone out and then we’ll have something to say.”

Fields added, “It’s not Tom’s style to do this publicly. He’s really sad about what’s happening.”

Meanwhile, panicked Scientology chiefs have fired off a letter to their followers urging them to “fight back” against attacks on the religion following Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ split.

The email, posted on the blog of former Scientologist Marty Rathbun, is written by Daniele Lattanzi, who Rathbun says works for the Office of Special Affairs, “the propaganda arm of Scientology.”

It advises followers how to censor and hit back at negative comments against the religion on the web.

Lattanzi writes: “You may have glanced the news of the split between TC and Holmes and all the speculations around. While this is a personal matter, when people start to bring our religion into the middle and a bunch of uninformed people start to spread false datum, rumors and defame our religion….So here is a simple hatting on how you can…fight back and at the same time stand up and defend our religion on the Internet.”

It goes on to urge followers to look up articles of the Cruise and Holmes split and describe how to complain to web moderators about negative comments posted by the public.

Rathbun also said he worked with Cruise during his time in Scientology, giving him “auditing” sessions, where followers describe their thoughts and feelings to rid themselves of negativity.

But he said Holmes’ devout Catholic family were very suspicious of the religion. He told Radar Online: “I did audit sessions with Tom Cruise from 2001-2004 and I can tell you that I have a friend that has been providing Katie Holmes’ family information for years about the iron grip the Church of Scientology has on Tom Cruise’s family and professional life.”

It is believed this information will become the center of Katie’s legal strategy to divorce Cruise and take full custody of their daughter Suri.
