Times fashion critic Cathy Horyn now has her companion, Art Ortenberg, fighting her battles. A year ago, Lady Gaga wrote in V mag: “Shouldn’t columnists and reviewers, such as Cathy Horyn, employ a more modern and forward approach to criticism?” Last week, Horyn got into a war of words with Oscar de la Renta after she called him a “hot dog” in her review of his show. The designer took out an ad in WWD to defend himself, and Gaga praised de la Renta’s move. Ortenberg responded to Gaga: “I feel it necessary to cudgel Gaga for her badly informed, dumbing-down opinion that an uninformed opinion is as valid as that of a seasoned critic — as though Gaga’s vacuous thoughts deserve the same status. Grow up.”
