Conditions in off-off-Broadway venues can be tough, but this is ridiculous. New York Post drama critic Frank Scheck reports the Horizon Theatre Rep’s revival of Jean Genet’s classic “The Balcony” has been canceled because of a bedbug infestation backstage at the Upper West Side’s ArcLight Theatre. According to the show’s publicist, the critters were discovered as the cast was preparing for its final dress rehearsal. Several actors were bitten, not surprisingly shattering their morale. Although efforts were made to debug the place, the delay made the scheduled run impossible. In this case, the show will not go on — at least until the production finds a new, bedbug-free house.
