Bill Murray dishes on pot, Japan

Perhaps it should come as no surprise that Bill Murray is in favor of legalizing marijuana.

Murray, who is promoting the Feb. 7 movie “Monuments Men,” said during a Reddit interview on Friday, “[Pot’s] threat has been over-exaggerated. Psychologists recommend smoking marijuana rather than drinking if you are in a stressful situation. These are ancient remedies, alcohol and smoking, and they only started passing laws against them 100 years ago.”

He also talked about filming “Lost in Translation” in Japan. “I would go to sushi bars with a book I had called ‘Making Out in Japanese.’ It was a small paperback book, with questions like ‘Can we get into the back seat? . . . Do your parents know about me? . . . Do you have a curfew?’

“And I would say to the sushi chef, ‘Do you have a curfew? Do your parents know about us? And can we get into the back seat?’”

As for the story that he once stole a french fry from a stranger, then whispered, “No one will believe you,” chalk it up to urban legend. Murray told Reddit, “Well, I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
