CNBC brass must have less patience than they claim. When we asked the network last week if management was worried about low ratings for their new business competition show “Crowd Rules,” a rep retorted: “While the ratings were laughably low, the advantage of being first in business worldwide during the day is that you can have patience at night.” But just two weeks later, the Tuesday night show, hosted by NY1’s Pat Kiernan and jewelry designer Kendra Scott, has been yanked off the air. It drew a dismal 47,000 viewers in its debut airing. “Crowd Rules” isn’t the only program on rocky ground. CNBC’s long-running morning show, “Squawk on the Street,” relaunched last week with new host Kelly Evans, a former Wall Street Journal reporter. But its ratings last week were off 20 percent compared to the same week last year. A rep for CNBC told us yesterday: “When you are No. 1 in business news during the day and posting seven consecutive years of record financial performance, you can afford to be patient with reality on Tuesday nights. As for Kelly Evans, Nielsen isn’t relevant but CNBC’s true audience thinks Kelly is exceptional.”
