Legendary basketball star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar dreamed of playing baseball. “I really wanted to play for the Brooklyn Dodgers, but my fastball wasn’t really up to it,” the former LA Laker said at the Up2Us Gala at Tribeca Rooftop on Tuesday. “Thank heaven for basketball.” Abdul-Jabbar said his first coach, Farrell Hopkins, told him, “‘You can go all the way to college . . . get a scholarship.’ . . . I tried to get the fastball over the plate . . . Fastball didn’t work too well, but skyhook did.”
