Anna Wintour looked surprised walking into a room full of scruffy downtown types drinking wine from plastic cups and beer from bottles during the “cocktails” portion of a Landmark Sunshine screening of Steve Coogan’s “Alan Partridge” movie Wednesday.
“The look on Anna’s face was like, ‘What is this?’ ” says a spy. “You could tell it wasn’t what she expected. Her and Shelby Bryan stood in the back corner before sitting for the film.”
We’re told that the Vogue editor loved the film. Coogan laughed off the less-than-glam event, also attended by Fabrizio Moretti, Ira Glass and David Byrne, saying, “We’re low rent tonight. I have no one to introduce me so I am going to introduce myself.”
The comedian, who won an adapted screenplay Oscar nod for “Philomena,” joked, “If you are expecting subtle, nuanced themes being explored in a dramatic context you are going to be disappointed . . . ‘Philomena’ was a very ordered, civilized process and this was like a Bond fight.”
