Oprah’s the toast of Waverly

Oprah Winfrey learned of Mo’Nique‘s Golden Globe award for best supporting actress as she was leaving the Waverly Inn Sunday night. A patron at the bar told Winfrey of Mo’Nique’s victory for her role in “Precious,” after which Winfrey, one of the movie’s executive producers, turned to friend Gayle King and spread the news. Winfrey made her first trip to the restaurant with King and five others and raved over chef John DeLucie‘s truffled macaroni and cheese. Her security team was also well-fed — an earpiece-toting gent ate a Waverly burger and ordered one for their driver before leaving. On her way out, Winfrey hugged her waiter and waved goodbye to other customers who sat in awe. “The restaurant hadn’t been that silent since Karl Lagerfeld was here,” said one insider.
