Sean Penn cops plea in paparazzo assault case

Hothead actor Sean Penn pleaded no contest Wednesday in connection with an altercation with a paparazzo last year, entertainment website TMZ reported.

Penn, who was charged with misdemeanor vandalism and battery, pleaded no contest to one count of vandalism. The battery charge was dismissed.

Penn was ordered to stay 100 yards away from the victim, whom the actor allegedly kicked, punched and threatened. Penn also allegedly broke the photographer’s camera.

He was placed on 36 months of probation and ordered to perform 300 hours of community service, some of which can be fulfilled by his work for his Haitian relief organization, the judge said, according to TMZ. He was also ordered to undergo 36 hours of anger management.

The vandalism conviction will be reduced to disturbing the peace if Penn successfully completes his probation. A restitution hearing regarding the paparazzo’s camera and medical bills is scheduled for July 8.
