Reporters of Newsweek’s demise are premature. Though the magazine’s Washington Post parent company recently put it up for sale — sparking rumors it would shut down — both Reuters and Politico.com owner Robert Allbritton are said to be “highly motivated” buyers. Newsweek Editor-in-Chief Jon Meacham, who is scrambling to keep the title alive, was seen lunching the other day with media dealmaker Steven Rattner, who was President Obama‘s “car czar.” And to spice up the Newsweek Web site, Meacham just hired former Gawker editor Gabriel Snyder.
