Karl Lagerfeld may recently have called Adele “a little too fat,” but the British songstress reveals that she is “proud” of her body and has no interest in being “some skinny mini.”

“I’ve never wanted to look like models on the cover of magazines,” Adele tells People. “I represent the majority of women and I’m very proud of that.”

She echoes the sentiment in an interview with Anderson Cooper, to air on “60 Minutes” on Sunday, in advance of the Grammys.

“I’ve never seen magazine covers and music videos and been like ‘I need to look like that to be a success,’” says singer, who is up for six Grammy awards. “I don’t want to be some skinny mini with my tits out. I really don’t want to do it and I don’t want people confusing what it is that I am about.”

Lagerfeld made his comments about Adele’s weight while guest-editing the newspaper Metro. “The thing at the moment is Adele,” Lagerfeld said. “She is a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice.”

After a backlash began, the former Chanel creative director elaborated on his original comments, saying, “I lost over 30 kilos over 10 years ago and have kept it off. I know how it feels when the press is mean you to you in regards to your appearance … Adele is a beautiful girl. She is the best. And I can’t wait for her next CD.”

While Lagerfeld’s comments are flattering, they probably won’t be enough to clear him in the eyes of the singer. When she appeared on the cover of British Vogue in October, the singer said that while she’s happy to keep on “Rolling in the Deep,” she isn’t willing to roll with those who criticize her weight.

“I’ve seen people where it rules their lives, who want to be thinner or have bigger boobs, and how it wears them down,” Adele said. “And I don’t want that in my life. I have insecurities, of course, but I don’t hang out with anyone who points them out to me.”
