‘Real Housewife’ Kyle Richards says cheating once deserves a ‘free pass’

Kyle Richards of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” has been married for 16 years, but believes that if her husband Mauricio Umansky cheated once, he should get a “free pass.”

Richards sat down with Robin Roberts of “Good Morning America” yesterday, and spoke about a claim she made in her new book, “Life Is Not a Reality Show: Keeping It Real With The Housewife Who Does It All,” in regards to cheating. In the tome, Richards wrote, “If you cheat on your spouse once, do not tell. You get a free pass.”

“I knew I was going to get some heat for that,” said Richards, who is Paris Hilton’s aunt, when the passage was brought up. She went on to describe a scenario where an unnamed friend told her they had cheated just once, and Richards advised them to keep the dalliance to themselves.

“I’ve seen circumstances with people that I know are in love with their spouse and they made one mistake,” Richards explained. “I said, ‘Listen, if this really was a one-time mistake, and you did not put this person in jeopardy, I personally think you should deal with it with yourself and with God and not go and say: Honey look what I did.’ Because I knew that this would ruin their relationship and their life. So I said: ‘It did not happen.’ And I can tell you that many, many, many years later they’re happy and together.”

Richards clarified that the friend she referenced was not on “The Real Housewives” and was not, in fact, herself.

Richards says that she and Umansky have just one secret to a long-lasting relationship.

“I’m very appreciative of my marriage and my husband,” she said. “I know what we have and I make sure to never forget that and make sure that he feels appreciated every day and he makes me feel appreciated every day. He makes it easy to.”

Richards also took a moment to talk about her sister, Kim Richards, who recently checked into rehab.

“I just visited my sister and she’s doing really, really well,” Richards shared. “She’s getting stronger every day and I’m very proud of her.”
