McConaughey’s ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ hat fetches $13K at auction

It’s the hat that led to an Oscar.

The cowboy hat Matthew McConaughey wore to portray Ron Woodroof, an HIV-positive heterosexual man who smuggled non-FDA-approved drugs into the United States in the 1980s, in “Dallas Buyers Club” has sold for $12,956.

But the Texas-made Resistol headpiece has changed since McConaughey first wore it on-screen — the actor, 44, has signed the underside of the four-inch brim.

“Just Keep Living, Matthew McConaughey,” the autograph reads.

The insignia is a nod to the role that put McConaughey on the map.

In 1993’s “Dazed and Confused,” McConaughey’s character, David Wooderson, famously declared, “Let me tell you this, the older you do get the more rules they’re gonna try to get you to follow. You just gotta keep livin’ man, L-I-V-I-N.”

Alongside wife Camila, McConaughey has also established a foundation called J.K. Livin, which aims to empower “high school students to lead active lives and make healthy choices to become great men and women.”

“While filming ‘Dazed and Confused,’ Matthew McConaughey was struggling with the passing of his father. It was during this time that he was overtaken by a saying that would soon change his life: ‘just keep livin’ or ‘j.k. livin’ as it’s called,” the foundation says.
