Ex-Motown president Sylvia Rhone is heading to Sony to restore the defunct Portrait Record label. Rhone, who was axed from Motown in May, will be working closely with Epic honcho L.A. Reid. Sources say Reid and Rhone will be sharing staff as Portrait will not be a full-service label with its own promotion department. But, “She doesn’t get along with L.A. at all,” a source said. “[Reid’s] taking her reluctantly.” Cyndi Lauper will be signed to the imprint label. Portrait, started in 1976, was dissolved in 2002. A Sony rep said, “no comment.”
