Cynthia Nixon shaves her head

Cynthia Nixon has said goodbye to her signature red locks. The “Sex and the City” actress has shaved her head for her role in the Broadway play “Wit.”

Nixon debuted her new hairstyle on “Live! with Kelly” today, explaining that she went bald for her role as a poetry professor with terminal cancer.

“I thought it was kind of gonna be no muss-no fuss, but I have to shave it every day!” Nixon said. “It’s got kind of a five o’clock shadow, and you don’t want to go on with that.”

Still, the actress reveals that she is enjoying trying out the look temporarily.

“I was always kind of curious to see what it would be like,” she said. “I like it, but I don’t think I’m gonna keep it forever.”

Nixon shares that “Wit” spoke to her because she herself beat breast cancer in 2008.

“She’s really at the top of her profession. She’s the best; she knows she’s the best,” says Nixon of her character, Vivian Bearing. “She gets a really bad cancer diagnosis and she goes through this really heavy-duty chemo and she meets that challenge, but she learns a lot about herself.”
