Simon Cowell’s engagement ‘not on’ but ‘not off’

Simon Cowell says his status, in Facebook terms, has changed from “engaged” to “it’s complicated.”

“It’s quite a complicated relationship,” Cowell tells the Daily Mirror about his relationship with makeup artist Mezhgan Hussainy, clarifying that they haven’t seen each other since before the holidays. “We have had a break from each other, and we are still incredibly close. I’m vulnerable. It’s not on, it’s not off, it’s somewhere in the middle. I don’t know if I will ever get married, but I am happy.”

Cowell and Hussainy met in 2003, when she was a makeup artist for “American Idol.” But they didn’t start dating until years later. In 2010, the so-called “King of Mean” gushed to Piers Morgan about his relationship with Hussainy.

“I’m smitten with Mezhgan, I think she’s the one,” Cowell said. “She’s very special … You know when you’ve found somebody very special.”

However, Cowell raised eyebrows earlier this month when he was spotted on vacation in St. Barts with several women — none of them Hussainy. In one photo, Cowell was seen sunbathing on a yacht with three women in bikinis, one them his ex-girlfriend Sinitta. Another photo showed him walking to a club amidst a pack of five beautiful women.

Still, Cowell had claimed last week that the trip wasn’t what it appeared.

“None of those women were girlfriends. They’re just friends, 100 percent,” Cowell claimed. “I talk to Mezhgan all the time. Everything is fine. But I didn’t say there would be wedding bells soon.”

In September it was reported that Hussainy had moved out of Cowell’s Beverly Hills mansion and into another property that some jokingly refer to as his “girlfriends graveyard.” It’s the home where Cowell’s onetime love Terri Seymour moved in 2008 for 18 months before moving on.
