Mitt Romney may have hauled in $101 million in July, but the GOP presidential hopeful barked up one wrong tree last month when his Romney Victory fund sent a request for a contribution to Democratic fundraiser Robert Zimmerman. He told us he was surprised to receive a letter from Romney telling him, “I am running for president . . . and because you are one of America’s most notable Republicans, I want to personally let you know why.” The letter goes on to ask for anywhere between $1,000 and $50,000. “Well, at least someone appreciates me,” Zimmerman, the Democratic National Committee member and political pundit cracked.
