Flaming Lips singer packs grenade into carry-on, shuts down OKC airport

This could only happen to Wayne Coyne. The wacky lead “Flaming Lips” singer inadvertently snuck a grenade in his carry-on and accidentally brought it with him to the airport. Idiot.

Thankfully the grenade was dead, but according to a police report obtained by TMZ, Coyne accidentally packed it in his carry-on bag on Nov. 10, triggering an alarm at the TSA checkpoint at Will Rogers airport in Oklahoma City.

TSA shut down the entire terminal while officers dealt with the situation. Apparently, TSA was in extra panic mode because they didn’t have “bomb guys” on duty, but once they determined it was harmless, they let him go.

Coyne was reportedly flying to LAX to catch a preview of the new Flaming Lips musical “Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots.” He told police he was given the dead explosive as a joke gift at a party. Huh, real funny. The grenade incident caused people to miss flights, and some even lost money as one passenger had to shell out $1,000 for new plane tickets, according to a local blog, the Lost Ogle.

Coyne actually tweeted about the incident saying, “Sorry Sorry Sorry!! Everyone that was inconvenienced by my grenade at OKC airport.”
