Bringing out the animal in fashion set

Fashion can be dog- eat-dog, but other creatures have taken over Fashion Week. Blow-up monkeys decorated an “Ape” party at Finale last week thrown by Naomi Watts’ brother Ben and Milk Studios’ Mazdack Rassi. Chimps showed up again at Kate Spade’s 20th anniversary bash Friday at Center548, where stuffed monkeys and a guy in a gorilla suit greeted guests. “I love King Kong,” Deborah Lloyd, brand creative director, explained. Glamour opened a Cat Fashion Concept Store in the Meatpacking District, where Cat Power played DJ. Mythical beasts are also represented. Simonez Wolf turned Andre Saraiva’s Le Baron into a Chinese banquet hall to celebrate the Chinese New Year Sunday complete with “lion dancers.” Also to ring in the Year of the Snake, Bulgari celebrated its Serpenti collection Saturday with puppeteers slithering a giant snake through the crowd.
